What Is the Verity Mod?

Verity started as a viral Minecraft horror series and turned into one of the most-searched addons of the summer. The premise is simple and unsettling: a strange yellow companion named Verity appears in your world. "I know everything," it tells you. At first it acts like the perfect helper — answering questions, holding a conversation, and guiding you through your adventure.

Then you keep playing. The longer Verity stays in your world, the more its personality drifts. What it says, and how it says it, stops staying the same. That slow shift from helpful to eerie is the reason the mod blew up — it plays like an interactive horror story you control.

Verity, the yellow AI companion, in a Minecraft Bedrock world

These are not typical mob addons. Verity behaves more like a character living inside your save than a scripted creature. Because the concept caught fire, there are now three Verity addons for Bedrock, each with a different take. Here's how to pick.

The Three Verity Addons

Verity Be — the original AI companion

The version that started the trend. A yellow helper that answers almost anything and slowly turns creepier over real days of play. Its replies are powered by a live companion server, so it feels genuinely conversational. This is the most novel — and the most involved to set up.

  • Size: 18.4 MB · Requires: 1.26.30+, Beta APIs, Websockets, server connection
  • Best for: players who want the authentic slow-burn AI experience

Verity by PnTMC — the carry-anywhere helper

Verity by PnTMC companion in Minecraft Bedrock

A companion you can pick up and carry. When Verity is on the ground you chat with it directly; when it's in your inventory, wake it by typing "Hey Verity" — but stay close, because it can't hear you from far away. It knows everything (math, ore locations, animal sounds, songs) and it cannot die. One warning baked into the addon: don't invite another friend once you've been in Verity's world for two days — it doesn't like that.

  • Size: 35.4 MB · Requires: 1.26.20+, Beta APIs (resource-intensive AI)
  • Best for: survival players who want a useful, portable sidekick with a creepy edge

Verity PE — the full horror addon

Verity PE horror addon True Form in Minecraft Bedrock

The scariest of the three. This version leans all the way into horror: custom dialogue and voice lines, a Cardboard Box encounter, a True Form transformation that turns Verity into a dangerous monster, horror chase sequences, special events, and an optional Golden Ages texture. If you want jump-out-of-your-seat moments rather than a slow drift, this is the one.

  • Size: 25.6 MB · Requires: recent Bedrock build, experimental features
  • Best for: horror fans who want voice lines, a monster form, and chase mechanics
  • ⚠️ Contains horror themes, flashing visuals, disturbing sounds, and intense chase sequences — not suitable for all players.

How Verity Works

The AI versions (Verity Be and Verity by PnTMC) work through chat. Type the trigger word, then whatever you want to say, and Verity responds:

  • Ask it almost anything: math problems, ore locations, Minecraft lore, or general-knowledge questions.
  • Tell it you're bored: Verity can play a sound, an animal noise, or a song.
  • Watch it change: the more time it spends in your world, the more its tone and answers evolve.

That last point is the whole experience. Early on Verity is upbeat and useful. Over time the replies grow stranger — which is exactly why creators have been recording their reactions for short-form video. Verity PE works differently: instead of open conversation, it builds toward scripted horror events and the True Form chase.

How to Install Verity

Every version imports the same way, but the experimental toggles differ. Follow these steps and check the per-version notes.

  1. Update Minecraft to the version your chosen addon needs (1.26.30+ for Verity Be, 1.26.20+ for PnTMC, a recent build for PE).
  2. Download and import the addon. Tap the .mcaddon file — Minecraft imports it automatically.
  3. Create or edit a world and open Settings → Experiments.
  4. Enable Beta APIs (and any scripting experiments your version lists). This is the step most people miss.
  5. Activate the Verity behavior and resource packs in the world's pack settings.
  6. Enter the world and trigger Verity — type Verity hello (Verity Be) or Hey Verity (PnTMC) to confirm it answers.

Verity Be only: also enable Websockets and connect the script debugger to the companion server when prompted (the mod uses a /script debugger connect command). Its AI replies depend on that connection being live.

Verity PE only: there's no server step — just enable the experimental features it requests. Be ready for the horror events once it's active.

If a version loads but won't respond, the cause is almost always the Experiments toggle (or, for Verity Be, Websockets / the server connection). New to addons? Our step-by-step addon install guide covers importing and activating packs on every platform.

Heads up: Verity Be routes its AI replies through an external companion server. If that server is offline, Verity still spawns but won't answer — normal for AI-driven addons. And remember: activating any addon disables achievements for that world, so use a separate save if that matters to you.

Things to Try With Verity

Once it's talking, experiment with what Verity can do:

  • Quiz it. Ask math or trivia and see how confidently it answers.
  • Use it in survival. Ask the PnTMC version for ore locations while you mine.
  • Set the mood. Have it play a song or sound while you build.
  • Play the long game. Keep the same world across several sessions and watch the tone shift — the change is the point, so don't start fresh every time.

For the best horror effect, play at night, alone, with chat open — or load Verity PE and brace for the True Form chase.

Is the Verity Mod Safe?

The addon files themselves are ordinary .mcaddon imports. Two things are worth knowing:

  • Verity Be uses an external server. Its intelligence lives on a companion server it connects to, so its replies depend on that service. Only download from a source you trust, and back up your world first.
  • Verity PE is a horror addon. It includes flashing visuals, disturbing sounds, and intense chase sequences. Skip it if you're sensitive to that, and keep it away from younger players.

Every Bedrock addon also disables achievements for the world it's active in — use a separate save if you care about progress on your main world.

Verity and Other Mob Addons

Verity is a one-of-a-kind companion, but it pairs well with the rest of your world. Drop it into a save loaded with other mob and creature addons for a world that feels alive — then let Verity be the one thing that slowly stops feeling friendly.

If you like reactive, personality-driven creatures, our roundup of the best mob mods for Minecraft Bedrock covers companions, bosses, and creatures that work great alongside Verity. For a full horror night, combine Verity PE with a scary map or world and play with the lights off.

Verity is riding a genuine wave right now — it's rare to get a talking, evolving companion on Bedrock, and the slow-burn horror angle is what's pulling players in. Pick the version that fits your playstyle, get the setup right once, and let it do its thing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Verity mod in Minecraft?

Verity is an addon that adds a yellow AI companion to your Minecraft Bedrock world. It went viral as a horror series — a friendly helper that answers questions and plays sounds, but whose personality slowly turns unsettling the longer it stays. There are now several Bedrock versions, ranging from a pure AI chat companion to a full horror addon with a monster form.

Which Verity addon should I download?

Pick by the experience you want. Verity Be is the original AI chat companion that connects to a live server and drifts creepier over days. Verity by PnTMC is a carry-anywhere companion that can't die and knows everything. Verity PE is the full horror version with voice lines, a True Form transformation, and chase sequences. All three are in our mobs collection.

How do you talk to Verity in Minecraft?

In the Verity Be version, type the word Verity in chat followed by your message and it answers from anywhere. In the PnTMC version you carry Verity and wake it by chatting 'Hey Verity', but you have to stay close. You can ask it math, ore locations, lore, or have it play sounds and songs.

Why is my Verity mod not working?

Most versions need Beta APIs enabled in your world's Experiments and a recent Minecraft build (1.26.20+ or 1.26.30+ depending on the version). The Verity Be version also needs Websockets enabled and a live connection to its companion server. A missing Experiments toggle is the most common reason Verity loads but won't respond.

Is the Verity mod safe to install?

The addon files are standard .mcaddon imports. Note that the Verity Be version routes its AI replies through an external server, so its answers depend on that server being online, and the Verity PE version contains horror themes, flashing visuals, and intense chase sequences that may not suit all players. Back up your world first; any addon disables achievements for that world.

What Minecraft version does Verity need?

It depends on the version: Verity Be needs Minecraft Bedrock 1.26.30 or newer, Verity by PnTMC needs 1.26.20 or newer, and Verity PE needs a recent Bedrock build with experimental features enabled. All are listed as compatible with the 1.21 family of updates.
