Understanding Mod File Types

.mcpack - Behavior or Resource Pack

The most common mod file type. Can contain either a Behavior Pack (changes game mechanics, mobs, items) or a Resource Pack (changes textures, sounds, models). Check the filename to know which type you have.

.mcaddon - Complete Addon Bundle

A bundle containing both Behavior Pack and Resource Pack together. This is convenient because you only need to install one file instead of two. The addon automatically extracts both packs.

.mcworld - Complete World/Map

A complete Minecraft world/map that you can play. May include pre-installed mods, custom structures, adventure maps, or minigames. Appears directly in your worlds list.

Which guide should I follow?

Check the file extension after downloading. If the filename contains "resource" or "texture", follow the Resource Pack guide. If it says "behavior" or "BP", use the Behavior Pack guide. For .mcaddon files, use the Addon guide.
